Every key from the lowest A to the top C, recorded from a Yamaha C5 grand piano rather than generated by a synthesiser. Soft touches and hard strikes use different recordings, so the tone changes with how you play, not just the volume.

How to Play the Piano
Three steps from an open page to your first song.
- Find middle C. Turn on note names and look for C4 in the middle of the keys. Most beginner songs start near it.
- Use both hands. Letters on the bottom rows play lower notes and the number row plays higher ones, so your left hand covers bass notes while your right hand plays the tune.
- Load a song. Open a song, listen once, then play along slowly and raise the speed as it gets easier.

Best experience
For the lowest delay, play in Chrome or Edge on a computer with wired headphones; Bluetooth headphones add a noticeable lag. A MIDI keyboard needs Chrome or Edge.
How the sound engine works
Each key press picks the recording closest to the note you played and the velocity layer that matches how hard you played it, then plays it through the Web Audio API. Notes are scheduled on the audio clock rather than on page timers, which keeps songs, the metronome and recordings in time even when the page is busy.

Is this virtual piano free?
Yes. The virtual piano is free to play with no account, no trial and no time limit. Ads on the page pay for it, and nothing you play or record is collected.
Can I play the piano with my computer keyboard, and see the note names?
Yes. Your computer keys play a 61-key window of the piano, and the octave buttons move that window up or down. Turn on labels to show letter names, solfège or the matching computer key on every piano key.
Can I connect my own MIDI keyboard or digital piano?
Yes. Plug a USB MIDI keyboard or digital piano into your computer and open the page in Chrome or Edge. The piano picks it up automatically and responds to how hard you press each key.
Are there songs I can play along with?
Yes. Open the song library, pick a piece and the piano plays it first so you can hear how it goes. Then play along as the notes arrive, slowing the tempo down until you can keep up. See the full song list. You can also browse the MIDI files and sheet music library.
Can I play chords on the online piano?
Yes. Press several keys at once with your mouse, fingers, computer keyboard or MIDI keyboard and they sound together. To work out which notes make a chord, use the piano chord finder.
Can I record what I play?
Yes. Press record, play, then stop to hear your take straight away. The recording is timed on the audio clock, so what you hear back matches what you played, and it stays in your browser.
Is there a piano game mode?
Yes. The game mode plays a short phrase for you to echo back, adding a note each round until you miss one. You can also score yourself on any song, note by note.
Do I need to download a piano app?
No. This online piano is a web app that runs in any modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there is nothing to install. Add the page to your home screen if you want it one tap away.
Does the online piano work unblocked at school?
The piano runs entirely in the browser with no download, so it works on school laptops and Chromebooks as long as your school network does not block the site. We cannot unblock a filtered network.
Do I need special equipment to use this piano website?
No. Any computer, tablet, phone or Chromebook with an internet connection and a modern browser works. Wired headphones keep the delay between key and sound lowest, and a MIDI keyboard is optional.
Can beginners learn with this virtual piano without reading music?
It is a practice tool rather than a course. Note names on the keys, play-along songs and the echo game help beginners learn melodies by ear and by letter, without reading sheet music.
Which piano sounds can I choose?
For now there is one voice: a sampled concert grand with two velocity layers on every key. It is a real recorded piano rather than the synthesised tone many digital piano online tools use.
