Exercise No. 14 of Charles-Louis Hanon's The Virtuoso Pianist (1873) takes one eight-note figure, C–D–F–E–F–E–G–F, and moves it up the C major scale one step at a time and back down again, with both hands an octave apart. The right hand starts the figure with fingers 1-2-4-3-4-3-5-4.
