Play Guitar Online
Pick a chord, then swipe across the strings on the guitar body, or press Space or J to strum down and K to strum up.
This free virtual guitar puts a six-string guitar in your browser: an online guitar you strum by swiping across the strings, with real fret spacing, 96 guitar chords one tap away and four sounds, from a steel-string acoustic to an overdriven electric. Play guitar online with a mouse, a touchscreen or your computer keyboard, tap single notes on the neck, and play along with songs that scroll the strum pattern past you. No download, no account.
Guitar Simulator
What makes it behave like a guitar rather than a row of buttons.
A neck you can see, a body you can strum
The neck is drawn to real fret spacing, low E on top as a guitar faces you; on an upright phone it stands up like a chord diagram. Every chord shows where the fingers go, and the tab beside it says the same in numbers.
Play the guitar-
Strum with a swipe
Drag across the strings on the body: down from the low E is a downstroke, back up is an upstroke, and a faster swipe strums tighter and louder.
-
96 chords, ready to strum
Major, minor, 7th, minor 7th, major 7th, sus2, sus4 and power chords on all 12 roots: open shapes where they exist, barre chords everywhere else.
-
Play along with songs
Pick a song and its chords fill the chord bar. The strum pattern scrolls past a playhead, and each arrow turns green when your strum lands on it.
-
Tap any fret
Tap the neck to put a finger on a fret and pluck that string; slide along a string to hear each fret. Build your own shape, then strum it.
-
Strings that act like strings
Each string plays one note at a time, so a new note on a string stops the old one, while the other strings ring on.
-
Left-handed and note names
Flip the guitar for left-handed players, and show the note name on every finger position.
-
Record and MIDI
Record a take and hear it back, or play the guitar from a MIDI keyboard or controller.

How to Play Guitar Chords
Your first chord changes, in three steps.
- Strum an E minor. Press 6 or tap Em on the chord bar: two fingers, and all six strings sound. Swipe down across the strings.
- Change to C and G. Press 1 for C and 2 for G, and watch the dots move on the neck: that is where your fingers go on a real guitar.
- Play along. Choose the four-chord pop progression under Play along, press Start, and strum each arrow as it reaches the line.
Guitar Sounds and Voices
How the strings are made, and the tuning they are in.
Steel-string acoustic
Bright and ringing, with the low-end boom of a big acoustic body. The default sound.

A plucked string, modelled
Each note is a Karplus-Strong string model: a burst of noise, shaped by where the string was plucked, circles a delay line one period long and loses a little treble on every pass, as a real string does. A body resonance (an amp, for the electric sounds) shapes it, and the Web Audio API plays it. Nothing is recorded.

Virtual Guitar FAQ
Is this virtual guitar free?
Yes. All four guitar sounds, the 96 chords, play-along, recording and MIDI input are free: no account, no trial, no time limit. Ads on the page pay for it.
How do I strum the guitar online?
Swipe across the strings on the guitar body with your mouse or finger. Moving away from the low E is a downstroke, back towards it an upstroke. On a computer keyboard, Space or J strums down and K strums up.
Can I play the guitar with my computer keyboard?
Yes. Keys 1 to 8 choose the chords on the chord bar, Space or J strums down, K strums up, A S D F G H pluck single strings from low E to high E, and L mutes the strings.
Which guitar chords can I play?
Every major, minor, 7th, minor 7th, major 7th, sus2, sus4 and power chord on all 12 roots: 96 chords. Open All chords, choose a root and a type, and the chord replaces the selected one on the chord bar.
Does the online guitar work on a phone?
Yes. Upright, the neck stands like a chord diagram with the body below it to strum. Turn the phone sideways and the guitar fills the screen, so one thumb changes chords while the other strums.
Can I learn guitar with it?
It teaches what chords look like and how they change: every chord shows its finger positions and its tab, and the play-along lane trains your strumming in time. Pressing real strings takes a real guitar, but the shapes are the same.
Is there a left-handed guitar?
Yes. Press Left-handed and the guitar is mirrored, with the body on the left and the neck on the right, as a left-handed player holds it.
Can I connect a MIDI keyboard?
Yes, in browsers with Web MIDI, such as Chrome and Edge. Each MIDI note plays as a plucked guitar note, and velocity sets how hard it is plucked.
